Industry, agriculture, and services
Třeboň is the main town in a region with a distinctively agricultural character. Therefore, there are many companies operating which are involved in producing various agricultural products, in cattle breeding, and in the processing industries linked to them. Futhermore, there are a number of agricultural service companies.
Other industries practiced in the area include sand extraction and processing around Stráž nad Nežárkou and Suchdol and, in a number of areas, peat is extracted for horticultural use, as well as for spa treatments.
Forestry and fisheries are typical local economic activities, whilst glass manufacture, ceramics, pottery, and basket-work are traditional crafts with a long history. In 1950, a textile concern 'n.p. Otavan' was established in the town of Třeboň, which has carried on business as 'Otavan a.s.' following privatisation.
An important economic line, which is typical for Třeboň, is the spa industry. At the present time, the town of Třeboň is the owner of two spa houses - the older Berta spa, near the historic town centre, and the Aurora spa on the banks of the Svět fishpond.
Visitors will appreciate the increasing number of accomodation facilities, restaurants, and other services connected with tourism year by year.
As Třeboň is one of the three biggest towns in the Jindřichův Hradec region, there are also many people employed in various offices which are concerned with the state's administration of the Třeboň region.
